I’m a little bit overdue to build something stupid, so…roughing out a plan to rectify that situation asap. I’ve got a MIJ Jaguar neck that I recently did a refret on, a pre routed standard Tele body (thankfully no string through was drilled), a pocket full of idiot ideas, and ain’t nothin’ gonna stop this from happening, not even the very obvious issues here. Nah, it’ll be fine. The wrap around bridge will allow me to get the 24inch scale that’s required, and to deal with the break angle, I’m going to build a solid shim for the neck pocket - guessing about 2mm, we’ll see. I’ll move the bridge pickup towards the neck by a few millimetres so it’s not right on the bridge, then do a massive smugglers route under the pickguard (of which I’ll cut a custom one, using this as a very basic template). Then decide on switching/control options, and a coat of the finest paint that $6.50 can buy. Should be fun!!! 1964 Fender Jaguar, all original, all amazing. This is the first real vintage Jaguar I’ve had the pleasure of working on/holding/playing and I gotta say, it’s a huge treat. The neck is unlike anything I’ve felt in a modern Fender, and it’s like the neck that all necks should be based on. Starting 2018 off with a little bit of tweaking of one of my last jobs from 2017. Joe aka @teenslain was having some issues with his mij Jag, so we had it in for a setup, and shortly after it was out the door…and then back in. I don’t always get things right (I’m only hooman after all) and after seeing why this had come back in, I felt a little daft that I hadn’t noticed the problem straight away. The threads weren’t holding fast on the grub screws, nor the height adjustments for the bridge itself, so a whole bunch of sinking had gone on. Threadlocker to the rescue. After getting the setup sorted again and holding fast, all that was left was to work a decent groove in the saddle of the bass E string, as Joe was getting some slippage prior to the threads giving out. As mentioned, I don’t always nail it first time around. Fun setup job on this MIJ Fender Jaguar for @kelliewatchthestars She picked this one up from @tymguitars a few weeks ago and brought it down to get it setup for a heavier gauge string than it was previously set for. It’s now ready to roll, and possibly rock, in whichever order. Kellie btw, played a set with her group Screamfeeder many years ago at a Big Day Out festival, and it literally changed my life. I’d always loved music and was playing guitar well (but not well) before that, but I’d had no to little real experience with local bands at that point in my life, all ages shows were pretty few and far between and local stuff was even rarer, I think I was 14…anyways the set that they played close to the middle of the day in the sweltering heat, got me completely switched on to a whole new world of the local scene, and I never ever looked back. I think I started my first band 6 months later, much of that owing to the impact of that set. Last job of the week, and likely the last job for Chris from @waax_band for a little while also, as I’m pretty sure he’s run out of guitars to bring in now! Really excellent example of a Japanese ELK Jaguar here, from the mid 60’s, well most of it. The neck is an unknown replacement, and the bridge has been swapped out for a mustang style, but it’s all about that rad trem plate for me, that’s awesome! When this came in, I had a feeling it had been given a once over pretty recently, and I’ve got a bit of an idea as to by whom, or at least from where. Really, this was about making the guitar play in a way that Chris likes, as well as a few other details, re-level and crowning of frets once the action I was aiming for was in place and minor rewiring, things like that. Widest zebra pickup… Donnie from @forevrforevr had me do a bit of work on his MIJ Jaguar, we loaded a couple of P90’s in place of the stock pickups, mostly so that it maintained something similar in output and tone to his Jazzmaster for live performances. Apart from that I just replaced the nut, which was only due to a shift in string gauge and no meat left (on the bone!) to adjust the old one, and gave it a setup.
