I’m a little bit overdue to build something stupid, so…roughing out a plan to rectify that situation asap. I’ve got a MIJ Jaguar neck that I recently did a refret on, a pre routed standard Tele body (thankfully no string through was drilled), a pocket full of idiot ideas, and ain’t nothin’ gonna stop this from happening, not even the very obvious issues here. Nah, it’ll be fine. The wrap around bridge will allow me to get the 24inch scale that’s required, and to deal with the break angle, I’m going to build a solid shim for the neck pocket - guessing about 2mm, we’ll see. I’ll move the bridge pickup towards the neck by a few millimetres so it’s not right on the bridge, then do a massive smugglers route under the pickguard (of which I’ll cut a custom one, using this as a very basic template). Then decide on switching/control options, and a coat of the finest paint that $6.50 can buy. Should be fun!!! P.S please feel free to point out anything huge I might have missed here! #mashup #customguitar #justforfun #guitar #failureisalwaysanoption #telecaster #jaguar #shouldntbeleftalone #beexcellenttoeachother

Starting 2018 off with a little bit of tweaking of one of my last jobs from 2017. Joe aka @teenslain was having some issues with his mij Jag, so we had it in for a setup, and shortly after it was out the door…and then back in. I don’t always get things right (I’m only hooman after all) and after seeing why this had come back in, I felt a little daft that I hadn’t noticed the problem straight away. The threads weren’t holding fast on the grub screws, nor the height adjustments for the bridge itself, so a whole bunch of sinking had gone on. Threadlocker to the rescue. After getting the setup sorted again and holding fast, all that was left was to work a decent groove in the saddle of the bass E string, as Joe was getting some slippage prior to the threads giving out. As mentioned, I don’t always nail it first time around. It’s rare, but it does happen, and I’m always more than happy to get it sorted if it happens. #tymguitars #guitartech #guitar #repairshop #fender #jaguar #offsetguitars #mij #seymourduncan #quarterpound #customguitar #fortitudevalley #brisbane #beexcellenttoeachother (at Tym Guitars)

Finished mod job on this Standard Squier Strat, by way of swapping out the original pickups for some tonerider Hot 90’s. The customer picked out a blank sheet of black pearloid for me to cut the guard from annnnnnd…while pearloid anything is never my personal go to, I think this actually turned out looking pretty good. Wired with a master volume, tone and a 3 way toggle 👍#tymguitars #guitartech #customguitar #squier #fender #stratocaster #p90 #guitarshop #repairshop #fortitudevalley #brisbane #beexcellenttoeachother (at Tym Guitars)

Fun time goofball experiment, completed. As mentioned in a previous post, this was a very busted Ibanez RG140, that I picked up from a pawn shop. Now it’s, ah, well, I’m not sure what you’d call it? It’s certainly fun to play, and with the mini humbucker and super hot P90, it’s a pretty wild sounding little thing. I had to ditch the original neck in favour of a Strat replacement, a swap that was for the better I’d say. Nothing against the original necks, I loved the jumbo frets, I just wasn’t super keen on the broken truss rod. I managed to take a tracing of the original scratchplate but it was super warped, so I just shaped it to what would fit. VERY simple controls, with master volume, mini toggle and a top mounted jack, that’s all, and that’s all I felt it needed. I’m going to sell this one at a fairly daft/cheapish price as it should be out there getting played! Feel free to swing by @tymguitars if you wanna take it for a spin 🤘#customguitar #guitartech #guitartepair #salvagejob #tymguitars #guitarshop #repairshop #ibanez #partscaster #guitar #fortitudevalley #brisbane #beexcellenttoeachother (at Tym Guitars)

Rainy day off shenanigans with what was an Ibanez RG140 (‘87 Korean factory). Yet another of my previously on hold projects, I picked this up in its original and completely broken condition from a pawn shop, ages ago with no idea what I wanted to do with it. A good hunt through the parts drawer recently, and a rather daft/excellent experiment is underway with a P90 and a mini humbucker, and a raft of other modifications… For years it’s been one of my favourite things, to take what’s basically landfill and turn it into something completely unique and fun to play. These experiments are not meant to be “perfect” but as long as it plays damn well, sounds great, and helps someone write some jams, my job is done. I’ll let you know how it turns out! #guitartech #guitarepair #customguitar #justforfun #ibanez #guitar #tymguitars #repairshop #guitarshop #fortitudevalley #brisbane #cursedobjects #experiment #wip #beexcellenttoeachother

Excellent day of servicing Jazzmasters and listening to @wilco. This is going out from the hire section @tymguitars and is 100% where I stole the idea to use a bigbsy bowtie bridge on my “made to fade” JM, they change the tone and feel of the guitar rather noticeably and I’m a huge fan. Oh and this thing sounds unbelievably good. #tymguitars #jazzmaster #fender #offsetguitars #guitartech #guitarrepair #customguitar #supportindependent #brisbane #guitar #repairshop #beexcellenttoeachother (at Tym Guitars)

It would appear that a few years ago, Tim did a thing or two to this Burny H65 😉 Along with a Fernandes Sustainer, it’s also had a delay pedal built into it, so I’ll just be here all week learning about rocket surgery hahahaha. Damn cool though and can’t wait to get it back up to scratch! #tymguitars #guitarepair #guitartech #burny #guitar #fernandes #customguitar #mij #supportindependent #brisbane #repairshop #beexcellenttoeachother (at Tym Guitars)

Getting reacquainted. This is the first guitar I gave a “made to fade” char finish, which feels like a lifetime ago! It’s actually a Squier body that I stripped, with a ‘52 reissue neck, and a set of Twisted Tele pickups (my favourite #fender set). It’s made to fade, but I’ve hardly had the time to play this thing anywhere near enough so I’d say it’s time to remedy that. #telecaster #madetofade #squier #tele #guitar #guitartech #guitarist #char #yakisugi #customguitar #cursedobjects #brisbane #beexcellenttoeachother

It’s my day off but I think it’s high time that I finished this build. This one was started around the same time as the other mahogany body that ended up being the tripleninety. I was just REALLY picky about the Tru Oil finish and had a few setbacks/runs that I wasn’t happy with…it’s now been on the shelf for long enough. I’m going to limit myself to one last coat, after roughing it up just enough to get a good adhesion. Everything else is in place apart from a set of pickups that I do believe will need to be something special - @leddinvintageguitars I’m looking your way. #customguitar #mahogany #guitar #guitartech #guitarbuilding #woodworking #strat #guitars #truoil #custom #cursedobjects #brisbane #beexcellenttoeachother

Widest zebra pickup… Donnie from @forevrforevr had me do a bit of work on his MIJ Jaguar, we loaded a couple of P90’s in place of the stock pickups, mostly so that it maintained something similar in output and tone to his Jazzmaster for live performances. Apart from that I just replaced the nut, which was only due to a shift in string gauge and no meat left (on the bone!) to adjust the old one, and gave it a setup. Sounds great, looks rad as heck I say ✌️#guitartech #customguitar #fender #fenderjaguar #repairshop #tymguitars #brisbane #offsetguitars #mij #supportindependent #guitar #jaguar #beexcellenttoeachother (at Tym Guitars)
