I knew I could hear some squeaking coming from around the neck joint, it didn’t take long to find the culprit. There was a fairly huge plastic shim (you can make out the indentation under my thumb) used on this Univox Phase 4 at some stage. Now I’m not saying it’s the only reason this happened, but I’d wager, given the sheer size of the thing (it was very tall) and the kick back angle it created, that it’s played a good part over the years in creating this crack. Too much pressure with not enough space to move, so something’s gotta give.
