Jaguar Rebuild Update.

Hey gang, been a little slack with content lately so I thought I’d take a quick moment to reflect on how things are going with the Jaguar body refinish as of this morning.

I’m really liking how the burst has come up, this pic is a little over exposed so the arm rest looks a little dicey, it’s nowhere near that intense irl and has a fairly smooth and consistent graduation into the rest of the stain. The Danish Oil has been working a treat, as it always does, and as I always do, I went a little overboard. I think in a way, I over coat with Danish Oil simply to prove that you can achieve a high gloss finish with the product, as so many people seem to think it’s impossible, it’s honestly not! However, in this instance I lost sight of what I was going for and need to cut it back a bit.

Part of the reason I enjoy modding and refinishing guitars, is to have a unique and personal product at the end, something that no one else has, and something that when held and played, and hey even looked at, you can tell a lot of love went into it. What I set out to do was to not recreate a factory gloss finish! So it’s time to get it back on track. Someone on a forum pointed out that (in it’s early stages) it looked like an old burnt barn, and THAT was exactly what I was going for, so at least I have a reference point to return to!

I should be able to start cutting the finish back in a day or so, as we are having perfect weather for the oil to cure and the excess to evaporate, and I’m really looking forward to getting it done.

Stay rad!
