Well, I’ve been on extended leave recently due to life, slaying dragons, and not having much of a workspace, but mostly because of slaying dragons.

I’m still working on having a permanent workspace as I’m moving house yet again in a week or so, so unfortunately posts are still going to be a little hit and miss. In the meantime I thought I’d just show you a small thing I’ve been working on.

I’m building a Lap Steel right now and sourcing parts, has not been the easiest. So I’ve been doing a bit of salvage/repurposing of materials.

The first photo shows what I’m using to make the Bridge and Nut from. It’s a big old brass bolt picked up from a local hardware store, in a bargain bin as it was a little bent out of shape and wouldn’t slide through the barrel. As of the first photo, I’d already cut a length off for the bridge, as seen in photo two.

A small bit of dremel(ing) later I’d cut it, rough shaped, and had indented the lines for the string guide. Now it’s on to filing them out with, well whatever works. In this case I’m using welding tip cleaners and a small tri file to get the groves started.

Slide guitar parts, really even something as simple as a bridge and nut have been really hard to find, so I know it might seem over the top to be making them by hand, but trust me it’s not. Plus, I really do like working with the stuff.

Missed you guys!
